Troubleshooting

Problem

Information that should be gathered to help troubleshoot problems encountered with IBM Engineering Lifecycle Optimization Publishing

Resolving The Problem

Gather the information before you contact IBM Support to troubleshoot issues:

  1. If the issue is occurred against the ELO-PUB or Rational Publishing Engine before the latest release version, try to reproduce the issue with IBM Engineering Lifecycle Optimization Publishing latest release first and share results.
  2. Collect details of the configuration:
    • ELO-PUB or Rational Publishing Engine version
    • Name and version of the data source
    • Application server type and version
    • Operating System
    • Database type and version

  3. Screen captures and text of any errors received.

  4. Collect the rpe.log file. The default location for this file is in the %TEMP%\RPE directory, which usually corresponds to the C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Temp\RPE directory.

  5. If you work with IBM Rational ClearCase, ClearQuest, and RequisitePro, collect the Data Services log files.

Default location for WebSphere Application Server:
    [WAS_Install]\AppServer\profiles\[Data_Services_profile_name]\logs

    Default location for Tomcat:
    [Tomcat_Install]\logs

  6. Collect the ELO-PUB or Rational Publishing Engine document template (*.dta), document specification (*.dsx) and data source sample data, for example a DOORS module archive to reproduce the issue.

Note: If the original template is more complex, create a simple template that can reproduce the issue.
  7. For Document Builder, if it is deployed on liberty, collect the liberty server log file such as messages.log. If it is deployed on WebSphere Application Server, collect the WebSphere Application Server log file such as systemOut.log.  And collect rpeng.log and dgaas.log files, which are located in the C:\Windows\Temp directory by default. For Linux based systems, these files are located in the \tmp directory by default.

NOTE: For instructions on how to locate the Document Builder logs, see the Location of the Rational Publish Engine Document Builder log files technote.
