ClearTeam Explorer (CTE) installation into Eclipse for sites that do not install a CCRC WAN Server

Abstract

In releases prior to V8.0, CCRC only supported web views. Site installations always included a CCRC WAN Server (known as CM Server in V7.1.x) from which clients could install the CCRC plug-in into Eclipse. Now that CTE (formerly called CCRC in releases prior to V8.0) supports dynamic views, there may be situations where a CCRC WAN Server is not installed. In this case, how does the user install the CTE plug-in into Eclipse?

In releases prior to V8.0, CCRC only supported web views. Site installations always included a CCRC WAN Server (known as CM Server in V7.1.x) from which clients could install the CCRC plug-in into Eclipse. Now that CTE (formerly called CCRC in releases prior to 8.0) supports dynamic views, there may be situations where a CCRC WAN Server is not installed. In this case, how does the user install the CTE plug-in into Eclipse?

In V8.0.0.1 the installation of a ClearCase client includes the ability to install an Eclipse update site for ClearTeam Explorer. Select the installation option "ClearTeam Explorer Update Site".

The update site is installed into the ClearCase installation directory at <clearcase_home>/CTEUpdateSite.

This update site can then be made available to users in your organization on your internal network by sharing the update site directory. In this case you have none of the overhead and complexity of installing the CCRC WAN Server.

Alternatively, you can simply have all of your users install the update site on their local machines, perform the installation into Eclipse, and then delete the update site to reclaim the disk space.

In either case, to install the CTE plug-in into an existing Eclipse instance, select Help->Install New Software, click Add in the Install dialog box, click Local in the Add Repository dialog box and finish adding the local update site directory. Installation proceeds as if you are using an update site on the CCRC WAN Server.
