Configuring Global Search on a multi-server cluster

Question & Answer

Question

How do you configure global search to work on a multi-server cluster?

Cause

PmObjSearchCron can only run on one of the servers

Answer

Global Search utilizes search across multiple MBO and attachment files

Global Search is done through: -

Navigation: Go To -> Service Desk -> Global Search

The search feature of Global Search uses the open source framework of Lucene Index from Apache. Before a search will work, the MBO data must be indexed. Lucene indexes data to be searched and stored in a specific path.

Since the PmObjSearchCron can only run on one of the servers, you need to create a common shared drive.
Then, configure the system property LUCENEOBJINDEX so all of the cluster members will point and access the same path to read the updated Lucene Index files.
For Maximo IT, which is running on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, you can configure a PVC using Network File System (NFS) with mount point, for example: -
