Problem
Information Server 8.5 fails to create the default DataStage project "dstage1" but the installation completes successfully. The installation logs under /tmp/ibm_is_logs show the following messages: Quick Add Project Starting ========================== ProjectName: dstage1 ProjectLocation: /gps/ds/IBM/InformationServer/Server/Projects/dstage1 Illegal flavor keyword, IDEAL flavor DataStage assumed DSR_QUICKADD.ErrorMsg: Unable to confirm the JVM can be loaded into the DataStage Server process because running 'DSR_CREATE.PROJECT.B TestJVM' failed. Exit code was 0, output was: Illegal flavor keyword, IDEAL flavor DataStage assumed Program "/bin/sh" core dumped. [SIGILL] illegal instruction 2011-09-29T12:51:51.595, INFO: CDIIN6204I: Successfully created DataStage project: projectName = dstage11
Cause
AIX stack execution disable (SED) is enabled.
Resolving The Problem
- 1. Turn off the SED at the system level:
To check if the SED is OFF run the command "sedmgr" without any arguments and the output should be similar to:
Stack Execution Disable (SED) mode:OFF
SED configured in kernel: OFF
2. Reboot the machine
3. Reinstall Information Server
The SEDMRG can be re-enabled after the Information Server install. However, there are certain commands that need to be exempted. Follow the steps below to turn on SEDMGR after the IS Install.
4. Run the sedmgr exempt commands:
sedmgr -c exempt <Information_Server_Dir>/ASBNode/bin/RunAgent
sedmgr -c exempt <Information_Server_Dir>/Server/DSEngine/bin/uvsh
sedmgr -c exempt <Information_Server_Dir>/Server/DSEngine/bin/dsjob
sedmgr -c exempt <Information_Server_Dir>/Server/DSEngine/bin/dsadmin
sedmgr -c exempt <Information_Server_Dir>/Server/DSEngine/bin/dsapi_slave
sedmgr -c exempt <Information_Server_Dir>/Server/DSEngine/bin/dssearch
5. Turn ON SEDMGR using the command "sedmgr -m on"
6. Reboot the machine
