Troubleshooting

Problem

"Error 553 permission denied" occurs when you use the 'put' command with ftp, when you install Gentran:Server for UNIX

Symptom

Error 553 permission denied when you use the 'put' command with ftp.

Cause

The mailbox user id belongs to the pseudo users group but does not have write permissions to all of the files and directories that it needs access to.

Resolving The Problem

To use "put" to transfer a file, grant write permissions to the group of all files and directories that need to be written to.

If you are going through a firewall, make sure the port that is being used (default is 505 and 504) is allowed to go through the firewall.
