ITM upgrade on Linux fails with KCI1021E error

Troubleshooting

Problem

While trying to upgrade ITM from 6.2.2 Fix Pack 2 to 6.2.2 Fix Pack 4 an error was displayed as follows: install.sh failure: KCI1021E could not unload file "gsli6243.ver".

Symptom

The error is a possible indication of a corrupted zcat binary on the target machine.

In order to test if the zcat binary is working properly, unzip the installation file containing the gsli6243.ver file using the following procedure:

cd <installation media>/unix/GSKit
zcat < gsli6243.ctp | tar -xf - tmp/gsli6243.ver

If the above command works, a tmp directory would have been created with that single .ver file in it. If it does not work, then there is a problem with the zcat binary on the system. You may also want to check the zcat binary you have on this system and compare with other (similar) systems where this installation media has succeeded.

Here is an example session of running the install which receives the error:

./install.sh
UPGRADE

ITM home directory "/opt/IBM/ITM" already exists.
OK to use it [ 1-yes, 2-no; "1" is default ]? 1

Select one of the following:

1) Install products to the local host.
2) Install products to depot for remote deployment (requires TEMS).
3) Install TEMS support for remote seeding
4) Exit install.

Initializing ...
install.sh failure: KCI1021E could not unload file "gsli6243.ver".

Cause

A corrupted zcat binary on the target machine.

Resolving The Problem

Replace the zcat binary on the target machine with a good version of the command. Typically it will be found in /bin but could possibly be in a different location.
