Troubleshooting
Problem
This technote addresses the appearance of the Unhandled exception - EConvertError '1,000.00' is not a valid floating point value when running General Health pivot in the OLAP Pivots option of Portfolio viewer in IBM Rational Portfolio Manager and provides a workaround for this issue.
Symptom
Steps to reproduce:
- Log into IBM Rational Portfolio Manager repository.
- Navigate to Work Management view.
- Select / create multiple projects.
- Select the option "Edit" > "Modify" from the context menu.
- In the "Modify" window, add a numeric attribute and enter 4 or more than 4 digits (such as 1,000 or 10,000).
- Click OK to make the changes.
- Close the window after the changes are updated.
- Select the projects and navigate to Portfolio viewer.
- Select the OLAP pivots > General Health(f). Notice the Unhandled exception occurs.
- Log off and log back into IBM Rational Portfolio Manager repository.
- Now select one of projects which is added the numeric attribute at step 5.
- Select the OLAP pivot > General Health(f). Notice the Unhandled exception still occurs and majority of the Health(f) Reports also display the same error.
Cause
This issue is reproducible only when you use Multi-select Modify function and enter four (or more than 4) digits numeric attribute value. This issue has been identified as a product defect and is a caused by a problem in the Delphi code. This defect will not be addressed in a future version of Rational Portfolio Manager and will remain a permanent product restriction.
Resolving The Problem
WORKAROUND:
- Avoid using Multi-select Modify function to assign and enter numeric attribute for four (or more than 4) digits.
- Re-enter 4 or more than 4 digits numeric attribute value again by opening each project's Description view > Attributes portlet. Then Unhandled exception will also not prompt.
