Translate ASCII files option within the Rational Synergy client on UNIX

Question & Answer

Question

Why is there no longer a Translate ASCII Files option within the Rational Synergy client on UNIX?

Cause

Design change

Answer

The Translate ASCII Files option within the Rational Synergy client on UNIX should never have appeared as there is no purpose for it. Files on UNIX do not need translation as any site using a UNIX server and Windows clients will have the Rational Synergy archive files stored in UNIX ASCII and not Microsoft Windows ASCII.

The contents of the object when in a Windows file system is copied to the Synergy server in UNIX format before being archived. Therefore Translate ASCII files would be required on the Microsoft Windows client, but not the UNIX client.

From Telelogic Synergy 6.5 and continued in Rational Synergy 7.x, the UNIX client has had this option removed from the client by design due to it being superfluous.
