FileNet® Business Process Manager automatic launch for workflow subscription failed

Troubleshooting


Problem

The auto launch feature in Content Engine (CE) is not working due to a mismatch in Process Engine (PE) Client files on the CE server with PE server.

Symptom

CE p8_server_error.log showed the following error message :

      2010-01-21T00:03:19.013Z 651F651F ASYN FNRCE0323E - ERROR Failed dispatching QueueItem row {F8AEABEE-ED70-4D2A-96DC-680BEF2899ED}
      com.filenet.api.exception.EngineRuntimeException: EVENT_HANDLER_THREW: The Event handler threw an exception.

      at filenet.vw.base.VWVersion.parse(VWVersion.java:186)
      at filenet.vw.base.VWVersion.<init>(VWVersion.java:238)

Cause

The Process Engine (PE) Client Installer 4.5.1 failed to update the Engine-ws.ear file in
../FileNet/ContentEngine/tools/configure/profiles/nameofprofiles/ear
directory because it was unable to use the JRE 1.4.0_x currently installed on the CE server.

With the successful PE Client 4.5.1 installation, it should update the Engine-was.ear in both locations as follows :

    • ..FileNet/ContentEngine/lib directory
    • ../FileNet/ContentEngine/tools/configure/profiles/nameofprofiles/ear directory

Environment

AIX 5.3

Resolving The Problem

  1. Install JRE 1.5.0_x if there has not been one already installed.
  2. Point the user's profile to use JRE 1.5.0_x.
  3. Run the PE Client Installer 4.5.1
  4. After the install and before redeploying the CE Engine, verify that the Engine-ws.ear file is updated in the following locations :
    • ..FileNet/ContentEngine/lib directory
    • ../FileNet/ContentEngine/tools/configure/profiles/nameofprofiles/ear directory
