Resolving The Problem
Make sure DOS prompt and Windows Explorer windows are closed and that no applications have handles open to the drive being backed up or where the restore image is being restored to.
If needed, use Process Monitor (a Microsoft tool) to see if there are any applications with handles open to the drive.

For Image Backup Failures:
Log onto the Tivoli Storage Manager Client GUI using the correct node name and do the following:
Go to Utilities -> Setup Wizard.
Follow the steps to configure “Online” Image Support.
This will add the SNAPSHOTPROVIDERIMAGE option to the options file. Retry the image backup. Be sure to restart the scheduler/cad service.
For Image Restore failures:
If using Windows Vista SP1 or Windows 2008, there is a Microsoft defect that will not allow volumes to be locked. In this case, apply the fix and reboot the system:

Reformatting the drive has also been seen to resolve the issue for the restore failure.
