NAS Backup fails with ANR0102E

Question & Answer

Question

ANR0102E tocbuild.c(xxx): Error 1 inserting row in table "NDMP.Image.Contents(TEMP)"

Cause

Backing up a live NAS file system

Answer

The error "ANR0102E tocbuild.c(xxx): Error 1 inserting row in table "NDMP.Image.Contents(TEMP)"" indicates that the object was sent previously by the NAS system. Tivoli Storage Manager already has one version of the object that was sent. This happens when a live NAS file system is being backed up to the Tivoli Storage Manager server. The live NAS device has changing data and if it changes during the NDMP backup, the object is sent a second time causing the Tivoli Storage Manager failure.

For an EMC NAS device, the following steps need to be done on the Celerra system:

server_param server_# -facility NDMP -modify snapsure -v 1
EX:
server_param server_2 -f NDMP -m snapsure -value 1

Once this is set, any NDMP backup from then on will create a temporary checkpoint filesystem (snap) for the backup.

On the Celerra management console, while a backup is running, it will display the temporary checkpoint filesystem that Celerra created. This requires space for the checkpoint filesystem, so the Celerra administrator should verify they have the space ahead of time.
