Configuring manual DataSource failback in OMNIbus Web GUI

Question & Answer

Question

I have WebGUI configured to failover from a Primary to Backup Object Server DataSource when the Primary Object Server is unavailable. However, I wish to failback from the Backup to Primary Object Server manually. How can I configure this?

Cause

With the default single datasource with failover configuration, failover and failback are automatic.

Answer

When connected to a Backup DataSource, Webtop will poll the Primary DataSource as configured with the backOffMultiplier and basePollingTime properties. These values are multiplied together to determine the frequency that the Primary Object Server is polled. If you do not want to automatically failback, these values can be increased to a very large number.

By default, they are set as follows in ncwDataSourceDefinitions.xml -

<ncwDataSourcePollingParameters>
<ncwFailOverPollingParameters backOffMultiplier="2" basePollingTime="10"/>

Note, if these values are increased, to manually failback, the WebGUI server would need to be restarted.
