Troubleshooting


Problem

Consultant/customer would like more information about the Framework Manager models in Controller.

Symptom

Cause

By default, there are two Framework Manager models included in Controller. These can be found in your installation folder under 'deployment' (by default for Controller 8.x this is here: C:\Program Files\cognos\c8\deployment):

Controller.zip
This was first introduced in Controller 8.1

  • It contains the model used by Controller to generate its 200+ built-in 'Standard Reports' using C8 report service
  • Do not modify this - it is not intended to be changed/customised

Ccr82_dm.zip
This was first introduced in Controller 8.2
  • It contains the datamart Framework Manager model for Controller published datamarts with 'Cognos 8 BI' target.

Resolving The Problem

Ccr82_dm

IBM Cognos 8 Controller includes a Framework Manager model 'Ccr82_dm.zip' that can be used for reporting and analysis (against a Controller datamart) from a product such as Cognos Report Studio.

  • To publish the Controller data in a suitable data-mart database format (so that it can be accessed with the Framework Manager model), when you define your data mart in Controller you would select 'Cognos BI' as the 'Additional Target'.
  • You must unzip the Publish to Data Mart Framework Manager model and publish it to IBM Cognos
Connection so that a report author can use the model in Report Studio for creating custom reports. You must have IBM Cognos Framework Manager installed and configured before you can open
the Publish to Data Mart model.

In other words, before you can use the Framework Manager model, you must first:
  1. Create a database for the Controller datamart
  2. Set the data-mart database connection properties (inside Controller Configuration)
  3. Create a data source object in Cognos Connection
  4. Unzip the CCR82_DM.zip file
  5. Then use Framework Manager to publish the CCR82_DM package to Cognos Connection.

Steps to Extract the Publish to Data Mart Model and Publish It to IBM Cognos Connection
TIP: The following instructions are based on Controller 10.1.

  1. Copy the CCR82_DM.zip file from the c10_location/deployment directory to a location that is accessible by Framework Manager.
  2. Unzip the CCR82_DM.zip file to extract the CCR82_DM.cpf model.
  3. In IBM Cognos Framework Manager, from the File menu, click Open and go to the location of CCR82_DM.cpf project file and then click Open.
  4. In the Project Viewer, expand the CCR82_DM folder, under Packages, click CCR82_DM, and from the Actions menu, click Package and then select Publish Packages.
  5. Click Publish. A message informs you that the model is published under Public Folders CCR82_DM in IBM Cognos Connection.
  6. Click Finish and then click Close.
  7. Close Framework Manager.
