Troubleshooting
Problem
How to determine the version of IBM Cognos ReportNet or Cognos 8/10 from the build number
Resolving The Problem
There are several methods to determine the build or version
of ReportNet or Cognos 8 / 10 that is currently installed:
Option #1:
Go to the appropriate install location, e.g. install drive\Program Files\Cognos\crn directory or install drive\Program Files\Cognos\c8 or c10
There you will find the cmplst.txt (component list) which indicates the components installed and their current versions. Look for the [Product Update Information] section which will indicate hotsite builds if installed. If this second section is blank, the topmost section [Product
Information] contains the correct version
Option #2:
Use the link appending your Cognos Gateway server name with:
/ibmcognos/cgi-bin/cognos.cgi?b_action=cmplst
Note that there are two restrictions: you must have system admin rights, and the CAF
(Cognos Application Firewall) needs to be disabled.
The build number indicates the MR (Maintenance Release) version, as per the following table:

If you do not have access to the component list file (cmplst.txt):
1. Hit Ctrl-F3 within Cognos Configuration to bring up a Properties menu
2. On the Installed Components tab, the build numbers will also be displayed
On each machine you have installed a CRN or C8 component, (i.e. Dispatcher, Gateway, Content Manager or Framework Manager) you will find this file in the CRN or Cognos 8 installation folder.
The cmplst.txt will give you the build number for each component installed on that machine. You will find this under the [Product Information] heading.
If there is a hotsite version of a component installed you will see this indicated under the [Product Update Information] section.
If you have installed a hotsite you can check the history.txt as well and this will give you a list of build numbers and fixes that hotsite includes.
You can also view other products installed on the machine under the [Third Party] section. Here you can find useful information like the version of Java, SOAP and Tomcat.
