To Search For Records in a Maximo Database

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document provides instructions on finding records in you database.

Resolving The Problem

Use the Search tab in any application to search the database for particular records.

To display all records in the database:

1. Open the application in which you want to search. The application's Search tab appears.
2. Click the Results sub-tab. Maximo displays all of the records. If necessary, click Next Page to scroll through the results. Click the record you want to select.

To specify criteria for a search:

1. On the Find sub-tab, enter a value in the fields you want to search. You can use Select Value or Detail Menu to select values.
2. Click Find. Maximo displays the matching records on the Results sub-tab. If no records are found, the system displays a message that no records match the specified query.
3. For information on narrowing your search results, see Filter a Table Window.
4. Click the main tab of the application (i.e. Work Orders, Invoices, Item, etc.). The system displays
the first record from the Results table window. Click Next to advance through the selected records.

Note: You can search for null and not null values by entering the following values into a search field on the Find tab:

Searching for a null value enter: ~null~

Searching for not null values enter: != ~null~

To save and use saved queries:

1. On the Find sub-tab, enter the value(s) in the field(s) you want to search.
2. In the Save Current Query section, enter data as necessary in the Save Query As and Query Description fields, select or clear the Available to Others and My Default check boxes.
3. Click Save.
4. To use the saved query, select the query name from the Current Query drop-down list.
5. To view or modify saved queries, click the Saved Queries sub-tab.

To query using SQL:

1. Click the Advanced sub-tab of the Search tab.
2. In the Current Query field, enter the SQL WHERE clause. You can also enter values on the Find sub-tab and click the Advanced sub-tab. The query from the Find sub-tab is displayed in the Current Query field. You can modify the query in this field.
3. To save the query, in the Save Current Query section, enter data as necessary in the Save Query As and Query Description fields, select or clear the Available to Others and My Default check boxes.
4. Click Save.
5. To search using the current query, click Find on the Advanced sub-tab.
