Preventive Service Planning

Abstract

This document lists known issues regarding running version 7.0.0.2 or later Rational[®] Software Development Platform products on Microsoft[®] Windows[®] Vista.

Content

This document describes how to start the following IBM® Rational Software Development Platform product on Microsoft Windows Vista:

Rational Manual Tester, Version 7.0.0.2 or later
Rational Functional Tester, Version 7.0.0.2 or later; Rational Performance Tester, Version 7.0.0.2 or later
You must always run Rational Functional Tester or Rational Performance Tester as the administrator. To run as administrator, right-click the program shortcut and click Run as administrator.

Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software, Version 7.0.0.2 or later; Rational Software Architect, Version 7.0.0.2 or later; Rational Software Modeler; Rational Systems Developer, Version 7.0.0.2 or later
Note: This section also applies to Rational Manual Tester, Version 7.0.0.2 or later after you have started it for the first time on Windows Vista.

If you did not select and installation directory or shared resources directory in the Program Files path (C:\Program Files) when you installed the product, then you can run it without requiring administrator privileges.

If the installation location or shared resources directory for the product is in a directory in the path C:\Program Files, then you must run it as the administrator. To run as administrator, right-click the program shortcut and click Run as administrator.

Note: If you extend an existing Eclipse IDE and you installed Eclipse inside the Program Files directory (C:\Program Files), then you must run Rational Application Developer as the administrator. (Right-click the program shortcut and click Run as administrator.)

On Windows Vista, the Program Files directory is virtualized in order to allow users who are not running as the administrator to have write access to this protected directory. However, the virtualization workaround is not compatible with these products or with Eclipse.

All Rational Software Development Platform products: starting the samples and tutorial galleries
Samples Gallery and Tutorials Gallery do not support the high resolution setting on Windows Vista operating system
The Samples Gallery and Tutorials Gallery do not support the new high resolution display setting "Larger scale (120DPI) - make text more readable" on Windows Vista operating system. The gallery content does not display if this option is set.

If you changed to the new high resolution display option, change to a lower resolution setting (for example, the default 90 DPI setting).

Samples Gallery and Tutorials Gallery require Mozilla Firefox as the supported Web browser on Japanese Windows Vista operating system
On the Japanese version of the Windows Vista operating system, the Samples Gallery and Tutorials Gallery require Mozilla Firefox as the Web browser preference; the gallery content does not display on other Web browsers.

To run the galleries, install Mozilla Firefox, and then set the Web Browser preference to Mozilla Firefox (In the main product menu, click Window > Preferences > General > Web Browser).

IBM Installation Manager, Version 1.0.0.3 or later
You must always run IBM Installation Manager, Version 1.0.0.3 or later as the administrator on Windows Vista. To run as administrator, right-click the program shortcut and click Run as administrator.
