Question

Will upgrading certain IBM Rational Team products also upgrade shared files for other Rational products?

Answer

These products, when installed on the same host, share a common directory:

  • IBM Rational ClearCase and ClearCase LT

  • IBM Rational ClearQuest

    Note: For enhanced ClearQuest Test Manager (CQTM) integration with Rational Robot, Rational Robot does require at least the 7.0.0.1 Fix Pack.

  • IBM Rational ProjectConsole

  • IBM Rational RequisitePro

  • IBM Rational SoDA

Therefore, they must be at the same version in order to work properly. Failure to comply with a common version installed for each product on the same host will leave you in an unsupported configuration. This issue does not affect these releases of Rational PurifyPlus, Rational TestManager, Rational Robot, Rational Rose, and Rational Rose RealTime.

Note: This applies to any version change of the products, with the exception of an iFix update. Review techdoc 7008656 for more information regarding V.R.M.F terminology.

This means that when you upgrade one product, you must upgrade all to the equivalent release when on the same host.

For example:

  • You have ClearCase, ClearQuest, and SoDA 7.0.0.1 installed on a workstation.
  • You wish to upgrade SoDA to 7.0.1.0 to take advantage of new functionality.
  • You must also upgrade ClearCase and ClearQuest to 7.0.1.0.

Note: Starting with the 7.1.0 and 7.0.2 releases of these products, IBM Installation Manager is used for installation. This installation process enforces that the Rational Team products are installed at the same, compatible versions.

Upgrading a certain IBM Rational 7.0.0.x or 7.0.1.x product



Although not enforced through the product installation process, these requirements need to be followed in order to complete a successful and supported installation.


Upgrading a certain IBM Rational 7.1.0.x or 7.1.2.x product

Starting with the 7.1.0 and 7.0.2 releases of these products, IBM Installation Manager is used for installation. This installation process enforces that the Rational Team products are installed at the same, compatible versions.


Technote 1381702 contains examples of compatibility errors you might see if the products are not upgraded at the same time.
