Problem
This technote explains why Access Denied errors can occur on files with a [].being-deleted[] extension while attempting to backup the IBM® Rational® ClearCase® cleartext directory of a VOB stored on Microsoft® Windows®.
Cause
Example complaint from backup software:
Error: You do not have permission to access portions of D:\VOBs\VOB1.vbs\c\cdft\d\38\126b9ba2b4d178579737.being-deleted.
The .being-deleted files are in a state of Pending Deletion by the operating system.
The cleartext (in most cases) has been scrubbed; however, there are open handles to the container that must be released before Windows can remove the container.
Once all handles are released, the files will disappear from view.
Note: A restart will also release all handles and remove the files.
Resolving The Problem
Since the files are in the cdft pool, these type of errors from backup software are harmless and can be safely ignored.
Note: The message may continue to repeat until the open file handles (that are preventing the removal of the cleartext container) are released, which may not occur until the host is restarted.
If the messages are cluttering up the backup log, you may want to pursue options to prevent these errors from getting reported, such as:
1. You can try configuring the backup software to ignore files with .being-deleted extension
2. You can configure the backup software to ignore the cleartext pools, as all files in there will be reconstructed from source containers
