IBM Support

Using the "reinitialize" CLI command to reconfigure an appliance.

Troubleshooting

Problem

If you need to return to factory settings in an IBM DataPower Gateway appliance, you can use the "reinitialize" CLI command.
This command removes all user data, configurations, ipmi-sel events, and network settings to restore the appliance to factory settings.

Resolving The Problem

The reinit CLI command returns an IBM WebSphere DataPower SOA appliance to factory setting
.
The reinit CLI command deletes (not erase) all existing configuration and data from an IBM WebSphere DataPower SOA appliance.

When the reinitialize command completes, your network IP configurations, user accounts, ipmi-sel events, and other configuration options, are no longer accessible as they are deleted.

You will need to:
  • Connect to the appliance by using the serial connection to perform the initial configuration.
  • Configure your Ethernet and all other settings again by using the information in the product information center available from our library page.

Important points:
  • You need to be able to log in to the appliance as the admin user.
  • Make sure you have a working serial connection to the appliance.
See this page for instructions to connect to the serial console.

  • The admin password will be reset to the initial value of "admin" after the command executes.

  • A firmware image must be uploaded to the appliance to run the command.

Use the File Management WebGUI option to confirm you have an image or use these CLI commands:
    idg# configure
    idg# dir image:
If an image file is not found, you need to load a firmware image to the appliance into the image:/// directory. For example: you can use the WebGUI file management options or from the Control Panel, choose the System Control icon, in the "Boot Image" section choose the firmware file upload options.

  • "reinit" is a CLI command available in the config-flash# mode, for example:
    idg# configure terminal
    Global configuration mode
    idg(config)# flash
    Flash configuration mode
    idg(config-flash)#

    reinit <filename>

Where <filename> represents a firmware image contained within the image:/// directory.
This is the firmware image that will be installed during the reinit process.

  • After the appliance reboots:
      • You need to perform the initial configuration from the serial console to enable one interface and the WebGUI to allow you to accept the licenses at first logon to the WebGui.
Note once the licenses are accepted the appliance restarts.
      • Configure the appliance per the instructions in the appliances configuration guide. This and other documentation on the appliance is available from our library page.
