Deleted views are still visible in the ClearCase Remote Client

Troubleshooting


Problem

This technote explains why IBM® Rational® ClearCase® views that have been removed are still visible in the ClearCase Remote Client (CCRC) GUI when working on Microsoft® Windows® or Linux®.

Symptom


After removing a CCRC view, it is still listed in the navigation pane. The view was deleted using cleartool rmview from command line or GUI in ClearCase native client.

Cause

The view information is cached for the CCRC client, but the .ccase_wvreg file is not refreshed when views or VOBs are removed outside of CCRC.

Review technote 1228258 for details on the use of .ccase_wvreg.

Resolving The Problem

To stop deleted views from appearing in CCRC GUI:

  1. Navigate to:
    • On Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\ where <user> is the actual user name who created the view
    • On Linux: change directory (cd) to the user's home directory that created the view

      Example:



  2. Edit the .ccase_wvreg file with a standard text editor for your OS

  3. Remove the path to the view directory for the missing view

    Example: C:\ClearCase_Storage\views\admin_project1_intg

  4. Save file, and open the ClearCase Remote Client application

  5. The deleted views will not be visible in the CCRC GUI.

Note: If the view's copy area has been moved, but the view storage has not actually been deleted, then you can just update the path in the .ccase_wvreg file to point to the new location of view's copy area.
