Question

How can an IBM® Rational® ClearCase® update, such as []patches, service releases, iFixes, and FixPacks[], be removed from a network wide release area or a host installation?

Answer

Rational ClearCase distributes product updates in the form of:

  • Patches (2003.06.00 and previous)
  • Service Releases (2003.06.00 and previous)
  • iFix - Interim Fixes (7.x and later)
  • FixPacks (7.x and later)

The above updates may have been applied to either a network wide release area OR directly to a machine that has Rational ClearCase installed based on the ClearCase version, operating system and the specific product update.

There is currently no mechanism for removing only the update from a release area or a host installation.

RELEASE AREA WORKAROUND:

  • A new release area must be created that does not have the update applied to it; hence, the patch or service release or iFix that you want to back out of should not be applied to the new release area.

INSTALLED HOST WORKAROUND:

  • A host with an update already applied must be reinstalled. After an update is applied, you cannot uninstall the specific update made on your computer. To revert to your previous product configuration, perform the following actions:
    • Uninstall the product for which the update was applied.

    • Install the preferred version of the product again.

Uninstall ClearCase before Reinstalling

To remove the update from a host installation, you must first uninstall ClearCase (to remove the update), then the host can be reinstalled with a prior release. See technote 1259627 for directions on manually uninstalling Rational ClearCase.
