Problem

This technote explains how to resolve an error, "Creating the Active X Scripting engine failed." This might occur when using IBM® Rational® ClearQuest®.

Symptom

Creating or modifying any record or running queries produces this error:

Error! Creating the Active X Scripting engine failed. Scripting engine is probably not correctly registered or CLSID incorrect. Result code is 0x80004005. The complete script text has been written to C:\TEMP\cq_vbscript_16111999114757.txt

Resolving The Problem

Either performing an uninstall and then reinstalling ClearQuest will fix this problem. You can first try running rereg.bat from the ClearQuest home directory to see if simply registering the component will resolve the problem.
