Error 2755 occurs when installing Crystal Reports 8 on a Windows 2000 computer.

Troubleshooting

Problem

This technote address an "Error 2755. Server returned unexpected error 1632 attempting to install package D:\scr.msi." error. This error occurred when installing Crystal Reports 8 on a Windows 2000 operating system for use with IBM® Rational® ClearQuest® 2002.

Cause

Permission's need to be modified on the "Installer" Folder.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve this error message and install Crystal Reports 8, perform the following steps:

  1. In the Windows Explorer, search for the "Installer" folder under the WINNT directory. The "WINNT\Installer" folder should now appear.

NOTE: If the "Installer' folder is not there, go to the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options". Click the "View" tab and de-select "Hide Protected Operating System Files".

  2. Right click on the "Installer" folder, click "Properties" and then select the "Security" tab. If the following message occurs, take ownership of the folder:

"You do not have permission to view or edit the current permission setting but you can take ownership or change auditing settings."

  3. Verify that the Administrator has Full control and Everyone has Read and Execute only.
  4. Run installation again to successfully install Crystal Reports 8 on Windows 2000.

NOTE: This error has also been seen when trying to install Crystal Reports from a terminal server. The user had mapped a drive to the setup of Crystal Reports and then received the above error. The solution was to use UNC to install the application instead of mapping a drive to the setup program.
