DFHZC2403 RC1001 sense code 0821 with CICS printers using TPX Passthrough Print Support

Problem

After an IPL, certain printers attached to your CICS region were getting a bind failure with sense code 08210000. The message coming out in the log when CICS tried to acquire the printer was DFHZC2403 E CSNE Bind failure. VTAM RETURN CODE 1001 SENSE CODE 0821 0000 ((1) Module name: DFHZSYX).

Cause

An authorization key in the production system for TPX was inadvertently updated. The printers having a problem were printers that used TPX Pass through Printer Support. The new authorization key that went into effect did not allow for this feature to be used.

Diagnosing The Problem

A VTAM (z/OS Communications Server) Buffer trace shows the bind being sent and rejected, but no additional information on why it was rejected.

Resolving The Problem

Change the authorization key in TPX to allow pass through print support then CICS will be able to acquire the printers successfully. Contact TPX support if you need additional assistance.
