Does DB2 normally recover a unit of recovery without using an archive log?

Question & Answer

Question

When recovering or rolling back a unit of recovery (UR), does DB2 normally recover the UR without ever using an archive log?

Answer

DB2 might recover a UR without using an archive log. DB2 checks if the
RBA range required resides in the active logs. If so, DB2 will preferentially
use the active logs for the recovery and will use the archive logs only
when necessary.
