Error description
When you check the Virtual Image Library (VIL) SystemOut.log you will see an error like this: ######################################## 2/18/14 15:49:30:645 EST] 0000003a VILProxy I Request result: {"status":{"state":"FAILED","message":"Crawl failed. In fact there is an OS partition defined but it cannot be found because the image disks are encrypted. SCO (VIL) Virtual Image Library does not support encrypted disk images. We can do 2 things here to improve our error messaging: 1) Report this message up to VIL UI 2) Enhance the message providing something like: No OS partition found. Check image for disk corruption or disk encryption.
Local fix
None, you will need to use an image which does not have encrypted disks. To check if your OVA has encrypted disks, check the OVF descriptor inside the OVA (you can extract it). You have an unsupported image if you see entries like this in the DiskSection: <Disk ovf:capacity="4" ovf:capacityAllocationUnits="byte * 2^30" ovf:diskId="cios" ovf:fileRef="cios.vmdk" ovf:format="http://www.vmware.com/interfaces/specifications/vmdk .html#stream Optimized" ovf:populatedSize="1123942400"> <cloudburst:partition id="1" mount="/" ovf:required="false" type="encrypted"/> NOTE: type="encrypted"
Problem summary
There is a misleading error message when disks are encrypted. It should be improved so as to assist with faster troubleshooting.
Problem conclusion
The logged error message has been improved as follows: "No OS partition found. Check image for disk corruption or disk encryption."
Temporary fix
