Error description
http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v48r1/index.jsp?topic =%2Fcom.ibm.sco.doc _2.3%2Ft_install_region_server.html The description for the "vm_ip_range" is that it is for provisioned VMs and doesn't say anything about compute nodes deploying to this range as well. My assumption was that this was my VM network and the compute nodes would go on the same VLAN as the region server.

Problem summary
PROBLEM SUMMARY *********************************************************** * THE DESCRIPTION FOR THE VM_IP_RANGE IS THAT IT IS FOR PROVISIONED VMS WITH NO MENTION ABOUT COMPUTE NODES. ********************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Since the description of vm_ip_range in infocenter is not clear enought, this make the customer installed SCO with wrong network configuration, so the info in infocenter should be modified to make it more clear. The original description of "vm_ip_range" in region-server.conf at Installing a Region Server is: ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- IP address range for provisioned virtual machines. Restriction: the vm_ip_range must match the subnet for the PowerVM network (network where the VIOS's reside on). It is possible for this to be not necessarily on the same network as the region server, which is fine as long as it can route to that network. ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ Normally, the customer install region server before installing compute node, so this would cause some issue for the customer, we need to modify the description of "vm_ip_range", to make it more clear in topic "Installing the Region Server": http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v48r1/topic/com.ibm.s co.doc_2.3/t_install_region_server.html The description should be update to: ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ IP address range for provisioned virtual machines. Restriction: the vm_ip_range must match the subnet for the PowerVM network (network where the VIOS's reside on). It must be in the same subnet with Region Server, and in the same network with compute node. ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ ************************************************************* * RECOMMENDATION: while installation, please follow the online infocenter, the information is updated: http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v48r1/topic/com.ibm.s co.doc_2.3/t_install_region_server.html please don't use the PDF admin guide you downloaded, the information may be out of date.
Problem conclusion
There is some information not clear enough in infocenter, but the information has updated, so while installation, please follow the online infocenter, the information is updated: http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v48r1/topic/com.ibm.s co.doc_2.3/t_install_region_server.html please don't use the PDF admin guide you downloaded, the information may be out of date.
