  • In RSO with Excel 2013:, when you open any XML file as an XML
table, this error occurs:

Local fix

  • Import the XML file from the Developer ribbon tab
(Developer > Import command) instead of opening it as a file.

Problem summary

  • The error should be expected in that case an the exception need
to be caught and handled.
