• Abstract:
  
  Attempts to edit a XHTML file and type inside the style tag
  result in slow response using the Page Designer Editor in IBM
  Rational Application Developer v8.0.4.1
  
  Problem:
  
  1. Create a Dynamic Web Project
  2. Configure the project to use Java Server Faces 2
  3. Download RichFaces and load it in Web-Inf\lib
  4. Target either Tomcat or IBM WebSphere Application Server
  5. Create a new Web Page (XHTML)
  6. Open the Web Page with the Page Designer editor
  7. Create a style tag to include Cascading Style Sheet content,
  as shown in the snippet below:

          }
  8. Attempts to type inside the style tag result in a delay of
  some seconds before each typed letter is shown
  
  Local fix:
  
  Use an alternative approach to include the stylesheet in a JSF
  page: use the h:outputStylesheet tag.
  In this way the style will be contained in a separate .css file.
   Modifying the .css will have no impact on the performance of
  the Page Designer Editor.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

• The Page Designer source pane was internally rendering objects
  even if the design pane was not active.  In a large project,
  this can cause performance issues while typing.
  

Problem conclusion

• The fix for this APAR is included in Rational Application
  Developer version 8.0.4.3.
