Error description
When applying a label in an IBM Rational ClearCase view, you may find that when you are running the following command that not all elements are labeled. cleartool mklabel -recurse LABEL_NAME . This may also occur with the Apply Label Wizard. You may also receive an error for some even though this is a new label that has not been applied: cleartool: Error: Version label of type 'LABEL' already on element. cleartool: Error: Trouble applying label to '.\file.txt'. This problem is only seen when: 1) using a global label type (defined in and copied from the administrative VOB hierarchy) 2) using these versions of Rational ClearCase: 7.1.2.9 7.1.2.10 7.1.2.11 7.1.2.12 8.0.0.5 8.0.0.6 8.0.0.7 8.0.0.8 8.0.1 8.0.1.1 WORKAROUND: From the command line, run the command: cleartool mklabel -replace -recurse LABELNAME . You will still see the error : cleartool: Error: Version label of type 'LABEL' already on element. cleartool: Error: Trouble applying label to '.\file.txt'. However all the elements are applied to the elements. From the Apply Label Wizard, under Options, select 'Move Existing Label' and the response is 'Yes, please'.
