Error description

  • It is currently not possible to correlate CICS TYPE 110 SMF
records with WebSphere MQ Type 116 SMF records.

It is however possible to correlate CICS Type 110 SMF records
with DB2 Type 101 SMF records, and use the CICS Performance
Analyser to produce reports for CICS/DB2 transactions.

CICS sets the 27 byte network UOWID and extracts from this a 22
byte correlation token which it passes to DB2 and which DB2 in
turn sets in DB2 Type 101 SMF records. CICS also passes the 27
byte network UOWID to WebSphere MQ so that WebSphere MQ can
extract from it the 22 byte correlation token and set it in
WebSphere MQ Type 116 SMF records. The QWHCTOKN field already
exists in the Type 116 SMF records however, WebSphere MQ
currently does not store and set this correlation token field.

This APAR is being raised so that WebSphere MQ can set this
    correlation token.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: WebSphere MQ Type 116 SMF records *
    * cannot be correlated with CICS Type 110 *
    *                      SMF records.                            *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
Type 116 SMF records are used for processing type accounting
records. As these records do not correlate with CICS type 110
SMF records, this restricts the ability to correlate this
accounting data for CICS/WebSphere MQ transactions. For example
this results in CICS Performance Analyzer not being able to
adequately generate reports for these transactions.

This is due to the accounting token in the type 116 SMF records
(QWHCTOKN), being set correctly, as to allow these to be
correlated with the CICS Type 110 SMF records.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

Comments

  • The accounting token, QWHCTOKN, in the WebSphere MQ SMF records
has been altered, to be set to the correct value, allowing
    correlation.

     data

    Contents:
The common WebSphere MQ SMF header type accounting record
section, QWHCTOKN, is used to correlate CICS type 110 SMF
records with WebSphere MQ type 116 SMF records.

CICS generates an LU6.2 unit-of-work token, for each CICS task.
The token is used to generate an accounting token which is
written to QWHCTOKN in the correlation header of subtype zero
records. Details are also written to the WTIDACCT section in
subtype 1 and 2 records. The accounting token enables
correlation between CICS and WebSphere MQ performance data for
    a transaction.
