PM74643: 11.4.1.2 symbols are misaligned when copying diagram to Word

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When trying to copy a large diagram to the clipboard the
  following message is displayed: Too many selected symbols.
  
  
  Workaround:
  
  From the Edit menu select Clipboard Format. Deselect the bitmap
  format option. Select the metafile format option.

Local fix

Problem summary

• Two problems:
  1. Client cannot specify the clipboard option "Bitmap format" at
  a high zoom percent due to a limitation that Microsoft placed on
  the size of its clipboard. (Workaround: reduce the zoom
  percent).
  
  2. Client cannot specify the clipboard option "Metafile format"
  due to internal corruption within an important metafile that
  causes it to be misaligned when pasted into a Word document.
  

Problem conclusion

• Unfortunately, there is no fix we can add to System Architect
  that will perform an on-the-fly repair prior to rendering the
  metafile image on the diagram.
  

Temporary fix

• When doing a copy-and-paste using bitmaps: Lower the zoom
  percent so as not to hit the Microsoft limit on clipboard
  content.
  
  When doing a copy-and-paste using metafiles: Use a third party
  image editor to repair the corrupted metafile named
  "CVX_CONTACT.WMF".
