    Rational Developer for System z - The real-time syntax-checker
does not tolerate an invalid continuation while compiler does.

    APAR Error Description
    ***************************************************************
    Rational Developer for System z - RDz - v8.0.3.1

For the below 2 COBOL statements, the real-time syntax checker
accepts the first one but flags an 'ERROR_TOKEN' the second one.

Both of statements use 'Continuation' dash and the code is able
to compile and run. The second statement shouldn't be flagged
    as error.

     77 C-DELIMITE1 PIC X(5) VALUE
    '1234
    -
    '5'.
     77 C-DELIMITE11 PIC X(5) VALUE
    -
    '12345'.

    ***************************************************************
    Re-creation steps
Enter the 4 above lines in a COBOL program, you will get a small
yellow triangle on the last line with error ''ERROR TOKEN' -
    unexpected tokens ignored'.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • Warning annotations are given by the editor real-time syntax
checker when the continuation character ('-') is uesd in the
indicator area (column 7) in cases other than where it is
required to continue a string literal.

Problem conclusion

  • The COBOL editor real-time syntax check parser has been changed
to accept and ignore the hyphen continuation character ('-') in
the indicator area (column 7), indicating a continued line, in
cases other than where it is required to continue a string
    literal.

The problem listed in this APAR has been resolved with
IBM Rational Developer for System z V8.0.3.4 Fix Pack which
is available from the Recommended Fixes support download page:
