Error description

  • After upgrading from CICS TS 4.1 to 4.2, a previously
    working application gets message:

    DFHPI0001 An Abend (code 0C4/AKEA) has occurred at offset
              X'48D2' in module DFHPISN.

    There is a SOAP Header element consisting of one blank space:
         <SOAP-ENV:Header> </SOAP-ENV:Header>

    DFHPISN misinterprets the element as containing relevant data,
    the code continues processing the header with residual data.

    When calculating the storage address of data to add to the
    output buffer, use of this residual data results in the
    0C4 ABEND.

    Additional Symptom(s) Search Keyword(s):

    DFHPI0500 The CICS Pipeline Manager DFHPIPM encountered an error
              while trying to link to program DFHPISN1.
              The program abended. PIPELINE: xxxxxxxx.

    DFHPI0400 The CICS pipeline HTTP transport mechanism failed to
              send a request because there was a socket error.
              Problem occurred for URI http://blah.com:port/x/y

    DFHPI0504 The CICS Pipeline Manager has failed to communicate
           with a service provider due to an error in the
           underlying transport. TRANSPORT: HTTP, PIPELINE: xxxxxxxx

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    A soap request is passed to CICS with a SOAP Header element
    consisting of a blank space:
         <SOAP-ENV:Header> </SOAP-ENV:Header>
    In this case, there is white space, which DFHPISN does not
    consider empty. By misinterpreting the element as containing
    relevant data, the code continues processing the header with
    residual data. When calculating the storage address of data
    to add to the output buffer, use of this residual data results
    in the 0C4 ABEND.

Problem conclusion

  • Module DFHPISN has been changed to do a necessary check for a
    start element in soap envelope header when there is content.
