APAR status

  • Closed as fixed if next.

Error description

  • IMS DC Monitor records for some External Subsystem (ESS) trace
    records always have Return Code zero instead of the actual
    return code. These are the return codes for the Commit Abort
    Exit, the Termination Exit, the Commit Prepare Exit, the Commit
    Continue Exit and the Commit Verify Exit.

Local fix

  • There is no local fix. The IMS subsystem table trace
    /TRA SET ON TABLE SUBS
    can be used to see the correct return codes.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: RC=0 always shows up in the IMS MONITOR *
    * when tracing External Subsystem calls *
    *                      (Type4E48 and Type4E49). This occurs    *
    * even when the call fails with non-zero *
    *                      return codes.                           *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The return code from an ESS related call is stored in the field
    PSTWRKT3 and later traced in the DFSSLOG TYPE4E48/TYPE4E49
    record. The actual RC is in the 4th byte of this word, but the
    trace moves only the 1st byte of PSTWRKT3 to the RC field of the
    IMS MONITOR record, which is inaccurate.
