Error description

  • Abstract:

Attempts to open Facelets in Page Designer in a Java Server
Faces 2 project take a long time.

    Problem:

In a Java Server Faces 2 project that contains many JAR files in
    WEB-INF\lib, perform these steps:

    1. Soon after the product started, right click on a Facelet
    (.xhtml) file
    2. Open the file with the default editor (Page Designer)

Results: In some cases it takes more than 30 seconds before the
    file is opened.

    Local fix:

There is no known workaround at this time.

JSF pages that use many component libraries can take an
unusual and excessive amount of time to open in editors.
This can also happen to JSF projects that contain many jar
files in the class-path. A method in charge of looking for
faces-config.xml files inside jar libraries of the project's
class-path and then parsing them was being called an unusual
and unnecessary amount of times for each page opened.

Problem conclusion

  • Measures have been taken to re-parse the faces-config.xml
files only in those situations where it is needed again,
taking full advantage of the internal cache and improving
dramatically the performance when opening pages.

The fix for this APAR is included in Rational Application
    Developer v8.0.4.2.
