Error description

  • SuSE 11 SP1 view extended access to non-ClearCase related mount
points prevent their unmounting after the fact

    ClearCase 7.1.1.x and 7.1.2.x

    SuSE 11 SP1

    To Reproduce:

    1) Make a View (can be locally stored or NAS)

    2) cleartool startview ?tag?

    3) /harddisk is a mount point to /dev/sdb1
NOTE: /dev/sdb1 is a secondary hard drive added to the
system to create a mount point /harddisk
NOTE: /dev/sdb1 is an EXT3 filesystem

    4) cp /etc/* /harddisk/

    5) find /view/?tag?/harddisk -name *.conf

    6) umount /harddisk
    umount: /harddisk: device is busy
(In some cases useful info about processes that use
the device is found by loaf(8) or fuser(1))

    7) Stop ClearCase and verify mvfs has been removed from the
    kernel

           /usr/atria/etc/clearcase stop
           lsmod | grep mvfs

The lsmod lists no mvfs module in the kernel

    8) umount /harddisk
    umount: /harddisk: device is busy
(In some cases useful info about processes that use
the device is found by loaf(8) or fuser(1))

    9) Reboot the system: You can now unmount /harddisk

Workaround: Do not access non-ClearCase filesystems from within
    a view extended path
