Error description

  • When installing IBM Rational ClearCase with IBM Installation
Manager(IM), the install may fail with the following error in
the logs:

ERROR: Error during 'install' phase:

  ERROR: Bad file descriptor

    Bad file descriptor

This has been identified as an issue with Installation Manager
and is being investigated further.


Step to reproduce:
Install ClearCase silently using the command line.


WORKAROUND:

Using the csh shell has been seen to work around this issue in
some cases.

Installing ClearCase 7.1.2.5 using IBM Installation Manager
1.5.1 silent install fails intermittently and returns the
error below:
Bad file descriptor java.io.IOException: Bad file descriptor

    



Problem conclusion


    

  • The exception should have been classified as a warning and
not an error that fails the install.  A fix has been made to
the IBM Installation Manager version 1.5.3 so the exception
no longer causes the install to fail but instead logs a
warning to the Installation Error Log. Here's the warning
that is logged:
CRIMC1069W: IOException caught when attempting to close the
output stream while executing the command
