PM59653: RDz changing file encoding on USS causes corrupted characters

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• After the customer opens a file on USS with RDz editor and
  changes the
  encoding of the file without closing the file, characters in the
  editor got corrupted.
  Once the characters become corrupted, even if you reopen the
  file or
  change back the encoding to original settings, they remain
  corrupted.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

• When using the Info property page to change the code page for a
  z/OS UNIX file that is currently open in an editor, the contents
  of the editor become corrupted.
  The user must clear the cache, and download the file to see the
  contents using the correct remote code page.
  

Problem conclusion

• When the code page is changed via the Info property page of a
  z/OS UNIX file while it is open in an editor, the file will be
  downloaded and converted using the newly specified code page.
  Depending on the editor, and whether or not the contents of the
  editor were changed and unsaved prior to the code page change,
  the user may be prompted to replace the contents of the editor
  with the newly converted version of the file.
  
  The problem listed in this APAR has been resolved with
  IBM Rational Developer for System z V8.0.3.2 Fix Pack which
  is available from the Recommended Fixes support download page:
