    ****************************************************************
WebSphere Application Server deployment manager process causes
high CPU utilization. The problem typically occurs after
extended use of the administrative console but is difficult to
predict exactly what actions trigger it.
A thread dump used to locate the source of the problem will
contain at least two threads that have call stacks which look
    like the following:
    3XMTHREADINFO3 Java callstack:
    4XESTACKTRACE at
    java/util/HashMap.findNonNullKeyEntry(HashMap.java:528(Compiled
    Code))
    4XESTACKTRACE at
    java/util/HashMap.putImpl(HashMap.java:626(Compiled Code))
    4XESTACKTRACE at
    java/util/HashMap.put(HashMap.java:607(Compiled Code))
    4XESTACKTRACE at com/ibm/ws/management/bla/runtime
    /BLAStatusReportExtendedData.initSpecMaps(BLAStatusReportExtende
    dData.java:902)

Problem conclusion

  • The high CPU utilization was caused by a race condition in
java.util.HashMap, which is not thread-safe. Synchronization
was added to the code using the HashMap class to eliminate the
    race condition.
