PM46890: CICS TG does not shut down normally.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The Gateway daemon did not shut down normally because two
  threads became deadlocked during the shutdown process,
  preventing the shutdown completion.
  
  If a shut down coincides with a scheduled statistics collection,
  the ZOSConsole thread and the statistics collection thread can
  hold locks that the other thread requires.
  
  Once the deadlock has occurred it is not possible to perform an
  immediate shut down of the Gateway daemon because all modify
  commands for the CICS TG job receive the following message:
  IEE342I MODIFY   REJECTED-TASK BUSY

  If a statistics collection coincides with the collection of CICS
  TG shutdown statistics, the StatController thread and the
  ZOSConsole thread both attempt to acquire a lock on the
  CTGResourceMgr object and the StatCollector object. This can
  cause a deadlock with each thread holding a resource the other
  thread requires, preventing the Gateway daemon shutting down
  normally.
  

Problem conclusion

• CICS TG has been changed to prevent the deadlock, allowing the
  normal shut down to complete.
