Error description

  • Description of problem:
    RAD is consuming over 37% CPU continually when Memory Monitor
    is enabled
    Environment:
       - Windows XP (x86) SP3
       - RAD/RSA 7.5.5.3
       - Product name (Build ID or version/patch level)
    Step to reproduce:
       - Create a new workspace
       - Enable Memory Monitor and set the Poll interval to 15
         (Windows > Preferences > General > Performance Monitors >
    Memory Monitor)
       - Restart RAD and monitor the CPU usage. Is will stick around
    37%
    Workaround:
       - Go to Windows > Preferences > General > Performance
    Monitors > Memory Monitor and change Poll interval to a
    different value and click apply.
       - Change the value back to the previous value and again click
    apply.
       The CPU usage will drop.

    If the Memory Monitor is enabled via the preference page
    General ? Performance Monitors ? Memory Monitor then the
    next time the product is started it will consume unnecessary
    CPU cycles as it is monitoring, by default, every 15
    milliseconds.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The default memory monitor interval has been corrected to
    monitor every 15 seconds.
    
    The fix for this problem is included in Rational Application
    Developer version 7.5.5.4 and 8.0.2.
