PM28352: APPLICATION DEADLOCKS DURING UPGRADE OF SCHEDULES FROM 8.2 AND 10.1

Error description

• Environment:??OS: Solaris, Cognos 8.2 (SX64) upgrade to 10.1
  (also tested on upgrade from 8.2 to 8.4.1 with same
  results)??Installed in separate directories on a single server
  (GW, CM, RS), Tomcat??Java: 1.5.0_17 and 1.5.0_12 tested??Sybase
  15.0.1????Upgrading of schedules from 8.2 to 10. results in
  application deadlocks.  IR COGCQ00264292 was previously raised
  for same issue and contains traces, logs and thread dumps.????An
  in-house test was performed by Tony McLay, which comprised of
  the following:????1) Installed 8.2.??2) Created 20 reports and
  10 jobs all with trigger schedules.??3) Upgraded to 10.1.
  ????Result: The updating 10.1 install locked up on the
  updateSchedules (synchSchedules mechanism). Inspection points to
  an application deadlock where threads open a transaction but
  also query the db outside that transaction - as suspected given
  globeop's feedback. This can lead to blocks at the db that
  induce deadlocks at the application level (hence no db deadlock
  detection). This is more likely for Sybase (and Oracle) where we
  use 'read_committed' for db queries (reads).??
