Error description

  • CICS Bottom-up Web Services PL/I scenario incorrectly handles
    filler ('*') data declarations.
    
    The customer receives IllegalArgumentException when they attempt
    to Generate a Web Service for CICS wizard to create a WSDL.
    
    The following exception is seen in the .log:

Local fix

  • Rename any asterisk items in the include files or PLI source
    files to anything else such as x1, x2, etc.
    

Problem summary

  • CICS Bottom-up Web Services PL/I scenario incorrectly handles
    filler ('*') data declarations.
    

Problem conclusion

  • In PL/I, a field with * is essentially a FILLER since it could
    never be explicitly referred to. Given that, we do not support
    FILLER items. The fix was put in so that the UI will guard
    selection of PL/I fields named *.
    
    The problem listed in this APAR has been resolved with
    IBM Rational Developer for System z V7.6.2.1 Fix Pack which
    is available from the Recommended Fixes support download page:
