PM15261: RULE FAILS TO EXECUTE AFTER RUNTIMEEXCEPTION FOR CACHE QUERY TIM ED OUT

Error description

  • When using PZN rule result caching and having Multiple Thread
    attempting to retrieve rule results for the same rule, it is
    possible to hit a timeout for the rule execution/retrieval.
    Should this timeout occur, alternate threads continue to wait
    and rule does not appear to reattempt execution.
    
    User would see repeated exceptions on going
    PznXMLInterpreter handleException ENTRY
    [java.lang.RuntimeException: Cache query timed out after
    60s,"Exception Thrown in PznXMLActionInterpreter.doQuery()"
    

Local fix

  • invalidate cache manually through rule editor
    

Problem summary

  • Experiencing an intermittent RuntimeException when executing
    Select Action rules with caching and multithread throttling
    enabled.
    
    Throttling will cause the secondary thread executing the same
    rule to wait and pull results of the initial thread execution
    from cache.  If the initial rule execution times out, all
    subsequent attempts to execute the rule will go into a wait
    state and rule execution will not be reattempted without manual
    intervention, in this case editing the rule causing the cache to
    invalidate
    

Problem conclusion

  • When timeout occurs on initial thread, clean up waiting threads
    and ensure that error is properly handled allowing subsequent
    thread to retry the rule execution or fail as necessary.
