PM14473: scroll performance depending on windows size, column width and d imensions of OLE object

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Depending on windows size, column width and dimensions of an OLE
  object the scroll performance is reduced badly. This results in
   monitor flickering and no reaction of DOORS client for some tim
  e.
  
  The cause seems to be a combination of the size of the OLE and t
  he rich edit control used by DOORS (wordpad shows the same probl
  em).
  
  Workarounds:
  - to shrink the OLE slightly (i.e. by entering in-place edit, se
  lect it, then use the resize handles). The OLE can be shrunk by
  a large amount, thereby enabling all the information in it to re
  main visible, while improving scroll performance.
  -the other alternative would be to shrink the column width.

  Scrolling in a module that contains a large OLE object
  results in performance degradation. As well as the size of
  the OLE itself, the size of the column in which it is shown
  also plays a part. A very small change in column size can
  make the difference between acceptable scrolling, and slow
  scrolling performance.
  
  The problem is either visible or not, there is not gradual
  performance degredation.
  

Problem conclusion

• The code has been changed so that performance is not
  degraded when scrolling through a module that contains large
  OLE objects.
