Error description

  • In IBM Rational Software Architect ? IBM Rational Software Model
er, you have the option of changing an attribute's type by selec
    ting its class's Properties ? Attributes ? Type ... ? Select Ele
ment for Type. Another method is to select the class's UML Prop
erties... from the context menu and then choose Attribute ? Type
... ? Select Element for Type.

However, neither method results in a change of the attribute's t
ype. You can select a new type from the 'Select Element for Typ
e' window, but, ultimately, the actual 'Type' in Properties ? At
tributes or UML Properties... ? Attribute will remain the same.

The following steps demonstrate the problem:

    1. Create a UML project and UML model
    2. Add two classes to the Main diagram and connect them with an
    association
    3. Click on one of the classes and select Properties ? Attribute
    s ? Type ... ? Select Element for Type
    4. Choose any type from 'Select Element for Type' and click OK
Expected Result: Either the attribute's type changes to the sele
cted type from 'Select Element for Type' or the tool will not gi
ve you the option to change the attribute's type.
Actual Result: You do have the option to change the attribute's
type, but, in the end, it is impossible to do so.

The same result occurs if you try to change the attribute's type
from the class's UML Properties... ? Attribute ? Type...

    There is no workaround.
