Error description
If you have two queries, A & B and the chart is based on a third query C which is a query based on a full outer join between A & B. When the report is ran in HTML the chart series display correctly. But when the report is ran in Excel 2002 or 2007, the chart displays multiple duplicate series. This is happening when the outer join displays missing rows from either of the queries. If both the queries have the same categories used in the join, the chart runs fine. Otherwise, the chart series get duplicated based on the query that has the extra categories due to the outer join. Note: This issue has also been tested in 8.4.1 and it exists there as well.
