Error description
Remove the requirement of session.dat file in all IBM Rational Change Management (CM) Server operations ClearCase 7.1.x ALL Platforms [in which the CM server is able to be hosted from] Symptoms: As usage of the CM server increases, and more views are created, the session.dat file grows in size. After a point in time (days to a few weeks), the run time of ClearCase operations starts to increase exponentially. As every operation is trying to access the session.dat file, the size of the file is proportionate to the increase of the delay of the commands. On Windows, session.dat is found in: C:\Program Files\Rational\clearcase\var\ccweb On Solaris (as well as other UNIXes), here: /var/adm/rational/clearcase/ccweb Thus, the growing size of session.dat file slows down all ClearCase operations associated with CM Server, and must be removed. Workaround: Contact IBM Rational Support for the appropriate steps to temporarily recover from this problem.
Local fix
Problem summary
The session.dat file is owned by the CCRC user who first created it - the ownership is dictated by the (username, domain, primary group) tuple. So if a user changes primary groups but use the same username and domain for authentication, access to the session.dat file would fail resulting in CCRC operations failing.
Problem conclusion
A fix is available in ClearCase version 7.1.1.1.
