APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When the Java client fails to start in web mode because the back
    end session failed to start, the error message displayed to the
    user is incorrect.
    
    Expected Results:
    
    Users should get a useful error message, e.g. Backend Session ca
    nnot start. Contact your administrator.
    
    Actual results:
    
    User is told their name or password is incorrect ('Incorrect use
    rname or password'). This is not true and causes confusion.
    
    Steps to reproduce
    
    1. Delete the ~ccm_root/.ccmrc file.
    rm ~ccm_root/.ccmrc
    
    2. Shutdown and unprotect the database to ensure no sessions are
     running
    ccmdb shutdown ?DBPATH?
    ccmdb unprotect ?DBPATH?
    
    3. Verify no sessions are running against the database.
    ccm monitor
    
    4. Start a Web Mode Client. Note the user gets the following err
    or:
    Invalid username or password
    
    The following is logged to the synergy_?SERVERNAME?_?PORT?.log f

     5. Create the .ccmrc file
     ccm set_password
    
     6. Start a Web Mode Synergy Client. Note: it works.
    

Local fix

  • Create a .ccmrc password file in the home directory of ccm_root.
